Core JKD Push-Pull and Snap
Here's one rapid way to gain the top position in training.

(1) From the tie-up Ming sets in to hold firm. (2) Ming applies forward pressure generating a push-counter push response.
(3) Ming sets elbows/forearms into Philip's body while readying for set (4). (4) Ming quickly clears space with legs and switches from push energy to pull.
(5) Ming snaps downward to the mat with head control. (6) Ming keeps one leg sprawled back to avoid leg catch while diving forward. Still controlling path of Philip with directional pressure.
(7) The finish, covering quarter position from top. Be aware of the need to sprawl or control arms/head should training partner attempt leg capture.
