"Having worked in both corrections and law enforcement over the past 20 years, I've had plenty of opportunities to experience first hand from personal experience what works and what doesn't. I wish I had access to the kind of training that Shaun offers when I first started on this career path. Core JKD Concepts is what I would call a simple, reflexive, low maintenance program that can be utilized within a relatively short period of time. It is one of the most realistic programs I have ever trained in.

As a Florida Department of Law Enforcement Certified Defense Tactics Instructor, I have received advanced training from some of the best instructors out there. I can honestly say that I would put Shaun in this category."

Core JKD offers unique methods of training you've never encountered before. We aren't the place to go to if you are looking for "cool" weapon flows, or flashy techniques for boosting your ego.

We are the real deal, where we train for function of the law enforcement individual. That's right, individual. No two people are the same, so how can you expect your training against a variety of aggressors to be the same type of training that 265 lb Joe Bob gets?

Functional training has to take into account strategies that work for your body type, your flexibility, your strengths; in essence, everything you bring to the table. This is the heart of what we mean by "CORE" JKD.
Gun retention from rear attacks: our training is geared toward realistic attacks and attempts for weapon control while an opponent is also trying to work you to the ground.
Still using the old and outdated knife defenses?
A. In this first scene you can see the double thumb block. Problem with this is having to chase the hand and rely on your thumbs to stop a forced attack from an opponent who is really trying to gut you - fast! You end up commiting both hands to a small area - you better hope this isn't a feint or that the opponent doesn't move faster than you or retract and strike at another angle. B. The old standby that is still being taught in many places. This simply is not a realistic interpretation of a real attack with repeated strikes. A simple slashing down motion severs both hands at the wrists at worse, disables your hands at best. C. Here again the defender has to rely on chasing the blade hand with little hope for control or effect on the opponent.

In all these examples the opponent is not being affected and has the ability to continually advance and repeat the attack. Where's the sense in this?

We have innovative and proven techniques not trained elsewhere for dealing with a real knife attack.
Core JKD fight training relies on unique "truth-in-combat" approaches where your partner is attacking you in a realistic manner where the intent is to kill or maim. This means penetration into defender's space is realistic, angles are random and fierce and your reactions are real.

This doesn't mean we go all out to injure each other in training, far from it. We actually have an extremely high safety rating higher than the majority of the industry.

Our mentality is to train safely, utilizing the Redman and Blauer equipment and others to insure that you'll be able to keep training and getting better. There is nothing worse than getting injured in TRAINING. That simply doesn't make sense to us.
And who can forget fighting from the ground - with or without weapons - or the need to retain your weapon in such a circumstance? We have advanced and proven methods for making your efforts on the ground adaptive and functional beyond what you would get in a Judo or Ju-Jistu school.

The street situation is not competition. Our training is based in the reality of a street fight scenario against single or multiple opponents with or without weapons. We live and breathe this mentality. Shouldn't your training reflect that understanding?
Knife Attack Videos

Below are some clips depicting the result of our training against an attacker who is actively trying to stab and slash the defender with random knife attacks. There is no rehearsal here, these are live demonstations and Philip has no idea where or with what kind of strike Ming enters with.
