Shaun "Ming" Rudie - Founder, Chief Instructor Core JKD
Shaun Rudie has been training in the martial arts for twenty-seven years. He was first introduced to Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do when he was twelve when his brother visited California and trained at the Inosanto Academy. Shaun Rudie started his formal training in Jeet Kune Do at the Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do Academy in Tampa, Florida. His instructor, Sifu Luis Martinez, is certified under Guro Dan Inosanto (Filipino Martial Arts, Jun Fan Gung Fu) as well as under Sifu Francis Fong (Wing Chun), Master Ajarn Chai (Muay Thai) and Erik Paulson (Combat Submission wrestling). Shaun Rudie taught at the Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do academy for three years. He has also logged many seminar hours under the instruction of Guro Dan Inosanto, Sifu Francis Fong, Erik Paulson, Professor Salem (Savate), Cass Magda (Pentjak Silat) and Rigan Machado (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu). During the intervening years, when the Bruce Lee JKD academy closed, Instructor Rudie continued (and continues) his training with his associate instructors as well as his seminar education. It was also during this time he started to “research his own experiences” and formulated a method of training based on the Jeet Kune Do principles and those "core" qualities he discovered that were crucial to maintaining the human body in fight condition. He also narrowed the path, further reducing the essentials to a minimalist fight methodology where one can more rapidly attain that awareness and function of being able to flow from one art, one movement, one path to another - transparently. Core JKD arose out of this research and continues to evolve today as a fully dynamic martial art covering the weapons, kicking, boxing, trapping and ground-fighting ranges. Shaun Rudie also wrote, directed and co-produced the Core JKD, Kicking and Boxing Range DVD which is a comprehensive martial art training DVD that broke the boundaries of traditional instructional videos with the use of 3D graphics, voice over and multiple camera angles. |

Philip Richardson, Instructor Candidate
Philip is devoted to hard training and pushes his body and those he trains with to higher levels of skill and endurance. The phrase "speak softly and carry a big stick" applies to this calm, approachable lad. Of course if you approach too close you may end up on your head as Philip has a bit of talent in the clinch arena and he can insert sweeps before you feel them. Philip has that energy and personality that almost makes you welcome the pain he dishes out. Philip began training in the martial arts 1991 under Grandmaster John Grahm in Ngor Chor Kung Fu. During that time he also trained in kickboxing and fought in amateur bouts for nearly three years. He holds a first degree black belt under Master Grahm and still trains with him whenever he gets the chance. When he moved to Texas he began training under Master Jeff Bonugli in Soryu Karate for three years, earning a first degree black belt before relocating to Tennessee where he trained in jujitsu and karate for nine months. After relocating to Florida he trained with various people in Tae Kwondo and Kung fu before finding Core JKD Concepts in 2003. In his own words, “After training for around a month at Core JKD, I new that it was a perfect fit for me. I had found my new home.” |

Bryan "Blade" Gough, Instructor Candidate
Bryan started training in the martial arts at age 11. His background includes time spent in Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, and some previous Jeet Kune Do. Bryan's groundgfighting style has been likened to Ming's, in how he produces a great smothering flow that compliments his similar body type. One thing to remember: Beware the Blade. Bryan can currently be found in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he continues to train and recruit students. If you are in the area and want training with Bryan in CoreJKD, contact Ming via our contact page and we'll get you in touch with him. |

Mike “Sulley” Gundock, Instructor Candidate (Senior)
Mike started his training at the Academy in May of 2003. At 6’3” and 235 pounds Mike is one of several heavyweights at the Academy and he leverages that weight nicely in nearly everything he does. For his size it is surprising how fast he can move from the cross body to the mount during grappling and he’s always a fun one to hold Thai pads for when doing knees. Mike trains hard and consistently as anyone who has seen him sweat can attest. Mike moved to Florida in 1997 from Ohio where he played semi-pro football for the Akron Raiders as well as upper level baseball. In his own words: "I have always loved a good challenge when it came to athletics and have always prided myself in the ability to adapt to any situation a game may bring me. The thing about JKD is that every time I start to think I have totally understood something, a new challenge arises. This is one of the many things I love about training. There is always something new around the corner. |

Scott started his training at the Academy in July of 2003. His previous martial arts experience includes some time in Wushu. One of Mr. Crawford’s highlights is in his overall natural speed. About core JKD he says: “This art became a perfect fit for what I was looking for. At first it was the topside stuff (boxing, Thai, Wing Chun etc.) that really got me fired up, and then came grappling. Grappling an entirely different animal, in ways that are inexplicable. Lets just say that when grappling class is over your not quite sure if you should ingest anything for the fear of it coming back up. It is by far the best work out I have ever had. With some grappling under the belt, it is becoming a little easier to see how all the different things we learn in class can come together in a flow.” |

Heather "Heather Of Nine" Wade, Apprentice Instructor Level One
Heather Wade started her formal martial arts training directly with Core JKD Concepts in 2002 and is the first certified Apprentice Instructor in the Core JKD Concepts Academy under Instructors Shaun and Michelle Rudie. She continues to train and teach at the Academy. Heather has also logged seminar hours training with Erik Paulson and Rigan Machado. |
